Salford’s ‘Techwuman’ celebrates her graduation

AN ENTREPRENEURIAL student who has already set up her own business aimed at helping women succeed in engineering, graduated from the University of Salford last week.

Melissa Ahmed gained an MRes in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, her second degree from Salford. In 2016 she gained a 1st class BEng (Hons) degree in Aeronautical Engineering. As well as completing two degrees, Melissa has already begun her career, and has achieved success many people her age could only dream of.

In 2014, she was one of the top 18 finalists in the country for the ‘Female undergraduate of the year Award’ run by Target Jobs and sponsored by Rolls Royce. Following on from this, she successfully completed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) where she led a two-year project which has revolutionised the design procedure of security products for Technocover. Technocover is a company specialising in designing and manufacturing security products which are able to resist physical attacks for guaranteed periods of time.
